In Business, Sometimes 2+2=5

I believe this is the way Rick Estenson of First National Bank adds things up. I don’t mean to say that he doesn’t know his math tables, but one thing is for sure, when it comes to building networks and connections among people, I think Rick can get 5 out of even 1+1. I know many people in Northfield would agree with me on this.

Last Tuesday March 13th, Rick brought me together with John Daniels, Bachman’s General Manager of the Lakeville Growing Range for more than 20 years. I asked a student to take a picture of us and decided to post it here with this note because John showed a genuine interest in exploring opportunities through the Latino Enteprise Center (LEC) to support his workers at Bachman’s. He is one of a growing number of business executives around Northfield who speaks the language I want to hear as work continues to develop the LEC into a strong organization for the advancement of the economic opportunities for Latinos/as in this region.

As I gain a deeper understanding of the specific needs of the Latino/a community and the businesses that employ them, one thing I know is appropriate and deserving, is to thank people like Rick Estenson, and the incredible network of people like him in this area who have extended their work hours, and expanded their views, to see how we can all improve our community by working together with the newest immigrants among us. The way I see it, the connections that Rick creates always add up to something greater than one would normally expect. Next time I get a “need you to meet…..somebody” note, I will be paying attention, you should too.

Cuando se trata de resultados, creo que esta es la forma en que suma Rick Estenson del First National Bank.  No quiero decir que no sabe sus tablas de sumar, lo que es seguro es que cuando se trata de crear redes de contactos y conectar a la gente, Rick talvéz incluso pueda sacarle 5 a la suma de 1+1.  Estoy seguro que mucha gente en Northfield está de acuerdo conmigo en este aspecto.

El Martes pasado 13 de Marzo, Rick me invitó a una reunión con John Daniels, el Gerente General de Lakeville Growing Range por más de 20 años.  Le pedí a una estudiante que nos tomara una foto y decidí ponerla aquí con esta nota porque John me impresionó mucho con su interés genuino de explorar oportunidades de apoyar a sus trabajadores en Bachman’s por medio del Centro Empresarial Latino (LEC por sus siglas en Inglés).  John es uno de muchos ejecutivos de empresas en la región que hablan el lenguaje que yo quiero escuchar a manera que continuamos transformando el LEC en una organización fuerte para el avance de las oportunidades económicas de los Latinos y Latinas de la región.

Conforme el entendimiento de las condiciones de la comunidad Latina se profundiza así como el de las empresas que los emplean, una cosa que yo sé que es apropiada, es el reconocer públicamente a las personas que hacen este progreso posible.  Gente como Rick Estenson y la increíble red de empresarios y lideres de esta región que han trabajado horas extras y expandido su visión para acomodar ideas y perspectivas que nos permiten trabajar unidos para incorporar a los inmigrantes Latinos/as de esta región.  En mi forma de ver las cosas, las conecciones que Rick crea, siempre suman algo más de lo que normalmente se espera.
La próxima vez que yo reciba una nota que dice “quiero que conozcas a esta persona”, yo estaré poniendo atención, si usted vive por acá, usted también debería seguir este ejemplo.
